Christmas the season to...

Ride :)

Christmas is a funny old thing. I seem to spend the weeks leading up to the 'big day' progressively getting less and less keen on the whole concept. (Thus suitably bleak photo with a goose contemplating it's cousins recent demise and imminent ingestion).

However, lucky for me Xmas always pulls it out of the proverbial hat with a relaxing week in Norwich (where the world is flat enough to see the curvature of the earth, see...

And, you can refuel with this... (tastes better than it looks, and nothing like it looks)

Of course, a vital component of Christmas Day is the Christmas walk. Just right for preparing the mind (and the digestive system) for the meal.

ps Thanks Santa for the new camera... expect an improvement in pictorial service from this date.

On the first day of Christmas...

I got two weeks holiday :)

No relevant photo, but an old classic. Bobs (now full-on super rapid IMan) and Mokes. While I'd love to say the opposite I've got to come clean... the 'Tashs aren't real... no really they're not.

Now, I've been playing with embedding U-tube on here. It's noted that this is someone elses pain... but you can't help but feel it. I hope Ryan Trebon heals quickly, not nice.

Cross, in Wales...

Hmmmmm, keen locals, good organisation, minging weather, mud in your eyes - must be the Welsh Cross Series.
Smile = had lots of fun. 2nd, outsprinted by someone with a much better sprint that me - which is no bad thing.

Fair play to Stu - after losing a contact he rode one-eyed. Never easy.

Finally got to grips with the new Giant cross bike :) Still not sure about 38cm bars though :)

You know it's raining and cold when...

1) You put stupid-looking clothing on your head to keep warm and 2) You have to put stupid looking clothing on your head to keep warm because you are frantically zip-tieing mudguards in place

You also know it's cold when you are properly wet (think wet like you've been swimming in your clothes), and 3 hours into your ride when it's puncture time :(

Its group ride time again...

There's something reassuring about the passing of the seasons. Spring into summer... hello sunshine and races, Summer into Autumn... hello autumn leaves and Autumn into Winter... tis the season to ride in groups.

It also means bike washing... lots of it. Not to worry, it's very satisfying to see the clean washing hanging on the line :)

Brrrrrrrrrrr...

Running is hard work. It hurts a lot. Especially when the ankle is still simultaneously swollen and floppy at the same time. Perhaps going off-road was a bit optimistic, but it is so much more fun than just pounding the roads.

Ice-cream headache anyone? Sleet and a headwind :( Great once in the wood though!

Thanks to Bobs (photocredit) and Gill :)

Last ride of Autumn...?

Thanks to Micky the Fish for what might have been the last ride of Autumn.

A lightning trip down to Cwm Carn (it's a little known fact that it's named in honour of everyone's favorite country singer, Kim Karnes).

Autumn leaves + the first ride on a new bike. A match made in heaven.

Not sure about these though, as a 'proper' scientist ;) I refuse to say 'good' or 'bad' in the absence of a proper controlled, randomised, double blind study. On the other hand I won't turn up my nose at a test set (Thanks PD at Climb On).

Sorry you missed it Sambo - next time :)

Start line thoughts...

This is going to hurt...

Hmmmmmmmmmmm (the sound of nerves humming)

I need to pee...
Thanks Joolze for the photo (see links right)

Other people...

In other blogs that I read (Nick Martin & Jason Sager amongst others, nice to read over a cuppa and a jaffa) other people are busy posting amazing photos of Autumn leaves and stories of great rides.

I think I need a better camera if I want to get involved.

In the meantime, my favorite photo... thanks to Joolze :) www.joolzedymond.com

this is the first one...

Of many, perhaps...

We will see if this becomes the new thing, or whether it dies like my annual 'start of the training year' November resolutions to stretch and do more sit ups.

Photo... the last walk of October - the off month, when walking is just more fun. Location - the Skirrid
